Before the war in Heaven, Lucifer was the most powerful angelic being, tasked with guiding humanity. His pride led to a rebellion against the Creator, resulting in his fall from grace and imprisonment within the Cage beneath Earth. He remained there for millennia until the prophecy of Armageddon required his release. To be freed, Lucifer required a perfect vessel capable of holding his immense power without exploding. The Winchesters were manipulated into believing their brother Sam was destined to contain him. Once inside Sam's body, Lucifer manipulated events to force the confrontation with Michael and Dean, aiming to break free completely or destroy the world if he could not rule it. His character explores themes of resentment toward God for creating humanity as a flawed alternative to angels. Despite his hatred for mankind, his actions are often driven by a desire to prove himself worthy of his Father's attention or to punish them for their perceived sins.
